SMC 2022 Rules for Players

This page has an abbreviated ruleset for SMC 2022 Players. The full rules are here: SMC 2022 Comprehensive Rules. In the event of any discrepancy, the full rules shall govern.

Tournament Structure

• Fourteen players qualify for SMC 2022.
• The bottom 8 are seeded into the Challengers Division. These players are split into two 4-person single-elimination brackets, which take two weeks to complete. Match formats are BO16 (Ban, Restrict, Double, Single, Single).
• The top two from Challengers are combined with the original top six seeds to form the 8-person Champions Division. Players are split into two 4-person groups and play a three-week round robin. Format is BO16, with no tiebreak.
• The top two from each group proceed to a 4-person single elimination bracket (including third place match). Format is BO20 (Ban, Restrict, Double, Double, Single), except for the Championship match, which is BO26 Around the World (Ban, Double, then draft every remaining venue to determine play order).
• In all drafts, whoever Bans first chooses whether to spy or snipe first. In the event of a tie (outside the round robin), the players play a tiebreak. Tiebreaks ignore the original draft bans/picks. Drafting in the same order, each player chooses a single venue, and 4 games are played (2 on each venue). If there is still a tie, each player again chooses a single venue, and 4 games are played (2 on each venue). Venues within a tiebreak cannot be repeated - once a venue has been picked, it cannot be picked again. If there is still a tie, infinite balcony is played until a player is ahead by 2.

Venue Setups

TBD, but will be competitive standard setups. Some setups may be tuned to be *slightly* more spy-favored than standard setups (e.g., adding a guest to the standard guest count).

Champions RR

• Round 1 complete by 9PM PDT Sunday. Oct 16
• Round 2 complete by 9PM PDT Sunday Oct 23
• Round 3 complete by 9PM PDT Sunday Oct 30

Champions Bracket

• Semis complete by 9PM PST Sunday Nov 6
• Finals complete by 9PM PST Sunday Nov 13

Player Expectations

• Players who accept an invitation to SMC should commit to playing the whole tournament
• Players must play all setups and formats as directed by the rules, and may not fix or otherwise predetermine match results
• Players must make every effort to schedule matches on time, be responsive to the Tournament Organizer (TO) on discord, and immediately alert the TO to any issues with scheduling.
• Late matches may be adjudicated at the TO's sole discretion. No extensions to the schedule are likely.
• Players do not need to read the entire comprehensive rules, but should familiarize themselves with the "Expectations of Competitors" section and the "Resolution of Technical Issues, Bugs, Errors, etc." section.

Prizes

• $100 Appearance incentive that is paid to the Previous SMC Champion upon completing SMC 2022, if they choose to play.
• $100 Appearance incentive that is paid to the Previous SMC Runner-Up upon completing SMC 2022, if they choose to play.
• $1000 prize for SMC First Place
• $400 prize for SMC Second Place
• $200 prize for SMC Third Place
• $100 prize for SMC Fourth Place
• $100 prize for the winner of the SMC Scramble Event

Every reasonable effort will be made to pay prize money, but if payment is not possible (for example, internationally with no workable payment platform) then the prize will be forfeited.

Competitors under 13 years of age will not be eligible to receive cash prizes, although they may compete.
